The Level 1 Next Gen S Upgrade Kit will provide the components that will improve reliability, smooth operations and over all Engine performance. The MCB will replace the vintage electro-mechanical drum and fingers reverse unit and in the same kit delete the wire wound Field assembly on the open frame Universal Motor. This combination will convert the Steam Engine to a DC motor operation with Magnetic DC Fields and a Digital Reverse PCB that maintains the classic Flyer modes of Forward, Neertral, Reverse, Neutral transformer operation. To support the provisioning of DC power to the MCB a Power Distribution PCB included in this Level 1 kit. The PDB is feed the AC Transformer Power from the track and converts the AC into DC power to drive all the digital components included in the L-1 kit. The MCB & PDB will be assembled onto 3D Printed Adaptors that will fasten to the tenders metal chassis for a safe, isolated and secure mounting. The DC Fields are a complete Remove and replace installation and uses factory screws and requires no additional components. You will need to remove the field power lines from the engine/tender harness. The Smoke PCB is a bolton component to the Flyer Classic Smoke Housing. There will be some Smoke Packing or Angel Hair rework to accommodate the new Lid Assembly. Instructions will be included. The same screws will hold the NGS L1 Upgrade Lid to the Metal Smoke housing. Included with the Smoke Lid is a Volt Regulator PCB and its Adaptors for mounting to the Tender metal chassis safely, insolated and securely. The Wiring Harness for the components routing from the PDM to each digital assembly will be included with instructions. On a scale of 1 to 5 in American Flyer Maintenance we rate this kit at a 3+. Mainly removing and replacing components with some wire cutting and soldering with the Smoke packing rework from the Flyer Smoke heater and rewound for the NGS L1 Upgrade Smoke Lid.
